How to Become an Indiana Security Guard

Indiana Security Guard Requirements

The state of Indiana, like many others, has certain requirements that must be met prior to becoming an armed or unarmed security guard. The training is designed to meet the requirements of the Indiana Department of Public Safety. This will prepare the applicant to work in the security sector.

To become an unarmed security guard in Indiana:

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • The applicant must submit fingerprinting.
  • The applicant must submit to an FBI style background check.
  • The applicant must have a high school diploma or the equivalency.
  • The applicant must submit to drug testing.
  • The applicant must attend state certified classes.
  • The applicant must have no prior felony convictions or misdemeanors.

To become an armed security guard in Indiana:

  • The applicant must be 21 years or older.
  • The applicant must have a high school diploma or the equivalency.
  • The applicant must have proof or legal citizenship or residency.
  • The applicant must pass a drug test.
  • The applicant must undergo an FBI style background check.
  • The applicant must submit fingerprinting.
  • The applicant cannot have prior felony convictions or misdemeanors.
  • State certified training courses must be completed.
  • The applicant must complete a yearly refresher course in security and weapon training to keep the license current.
